MORE ON THE LAB REPORT

Materials:

  • all the equipment needed to do a lab
  • all the chemicals needed to do a lab
  • DO NOT INCLUDE:
    • goggles, apron, paper towel, water, pen, partner, desk
  • Write the materials like this:

    description/size
    item name
    4
    purple 4"
    balloons
    2
    white plastic
    test tube racks
    how many

Procedure:
  • list of the steps you need to follow in order to do the lab
  • be very specific!!
  • use a numbered list like this:
    1. put test tube in rack

  • each step should start with an action word
  • don't use words like "you," "me," or "I"
  • the last step is always CLEAN UP!
Data:
  • written DURING lab
  • record of everything you see, do, observe, and measure during lab
  • should include words (descriptions), numbers (measurements), and pictures (sketches)
  • charts are a good way to organize numerical data
Conclusion:
  • written AFTER lab
  • four sentences:
    • My answer is (give the relationship that answers the problem based on YOUR data).  I know this because (give data from two trials [NUMBERS!!!] to support your answer).  Some problems were (list some of the things that went wrong during lab, including breakages, injuries/accidents, mistakes, and things that could have gone better).  If I did this lab again, (tell how this lab could be improved but don't say you needed more time!).
