Every April, Teen Poets Slam at the Lincoln High School
In honor of National Poetry Month, the Lincoln High School Media Center sponsors a poetry slam in the LHS Auditorium every April.
A poetry slam is a popular spoken-word form of performance art that teens love; poets take turns at the microphone expressively reciting and/or free-forming poetry, regarding current topics of high interest to teenagers.
Lincoln High School teacher, Mr. Kyle Kipp, works diligently every year to plan the event, audition the talent, and line up the performers. He finds experienced poets from the local community (as well as some of Lincoln's own students and staff) and brings them up to the stage of Lincoln High School’s auditorium to entertain, inspire, and educate the students of Lincoln High.
Over 30 teachers and their classes of students attend this event, making for a packed house of over 500 enthusiastic and attentive audience members per performance (with a total of three performances per annual event).
More information can be found at Poetry Slam, Inc. and Answers.com.
In the past, the poetry slam has featured such local poet luminaries as Jeff Kass of Ann Arbor, as well as his competitive troupe of slammers.
Be sure to check out this talented group of young poets each year as they perform live poetry in a way you will be sure to enjoy.
