Student Acceptable-Use Policy (AUP) for Library Computers

 

Mandatory Rules:  

  1. 1.        Computers may only be used for schoolwork and items that your teacher gave you permission to do.

    Anything else is unacceptable.

    2.        Priority of computer use is given to students in the previously scheduled classes or those who have schoolwork to do; not those students that are trying to use them for entertainment purposes.

    3.        Time on the computer may be limited if others students are waiting to use them for schoolwork.

    4.        The Library staff will help you with difficulties, just raise your hand and wait to be helped.

    5.        Your suggestions and expertise regarding the computers are welcome.

    6.        Do not change or damage software or system configurations.

    7.        Do not open, change or erase anyone else’s work.

    8.        Do not use other people’s login or passwords.

    9.        Do not access inappropriate sites. If you reach one accidentally, immediately tell a staff member.

    10.     Do not print anything without permission. Print outs must be retrieved from a staff member at the main desk.

    11.     Do not play games, listen to your CDs, or use earphones.

    12.     Do not harm or embarrass others or violate anyone’s privacy.

    13.     No use of e-mail or forms of “chat” permitted.

    14.     Sign your name, date and time when using any computer.  If you use the Internet, sign your name, time in and out, & subject searched.

    15.     Print only 1 copy of your project. Photocopy extras if needed.

    16.     Make sure the information you print is useful to you. Don’t waste paper & toner or privileges will be

    Revoked: this wasted is costly.

    17.     Students are allowed to print only up to ten (10) pages per day, per person.

    18.     All standard school rules apply while on the computer, no inappropriate behavior of any kind will be tolerated or computer privileges will be terminated.

    19.     Save frequently to your own disc and/or personal network drive (P:drive) to ensure projects are not lost.

    20.     The P:drive is much more stable than the floppy drives; save to the P:drive primarily and often.

    21.     If you bring a disk from home, it will be checked for viruses.

    22.     DO NOT save your files to the computer's C:drive-- it will be deleted as soon as you log off the computer.

    23.     You must log off from the computer when done.

    24.     Floppy disks and Flash Media Drives (aka: thumb drives) are available for sale at the Media Center.

Failure to follow these rules will result in the loss of computer privileges for up to a year and/or other more severe sanctions.
